Fun Games For Indoors and Outdoors

I grew up in an age when fun games were played everyday as a source of entertainment.

In the summer, we'd head outside and wouldn't come back in until Mom threatend us.

If it was raining outside, we'd grab a deck of cards or a board game and spend the afternoon learning how to get along while trying to win the game.

This website came to be, because I'm trying to teach my grandchildren some of the games that were a huge part of my childhood. While I could remember the names of the games, the rules were long ago forgotten. After doing a ton of research I've decided to put as much as possible into one place, hence game-and-puzzle-treasury.com was born.

It is the child in man that is the source of his uniqueness and creativeness, and the playground is the optimal milieu for the unfolding of his capacities and talents.
Eric Hoffer, (1902-83) philosopher

While games are great for children as learning tools, they're also great stress relievers for adults.

Rather than keep this site just for childrens' games, I've decided that adult games will also be covered. After all we all work so hard during the work week we deserve to have fun too!

Why Play Games?

People play games because they are fun, but games also teach important lessons in sharing, following rules and how to win and lose gracefully.

Games can help nurish a childs' self-confidence and self-esteem.

If you've ever played games with a five year old you'll also see that games can be an outlet for creativity especially where rules are concerned!

Play or Work?

Years ago games were not played for recreation. They were used as a means to develop the skills needed to survive. They were also used as means to keep the elders in shape.

Developing essential skills of running, catching and perfecting ones' aim were paramount to putting food on the table.

Choosing "It"
Can you remember some of the fun rhymes used for choosing the person who was going to go first?

Eeny, meeny, miney, mo,
Catch a tiger by the toe,
If he hollers, let him go,
Eeny meeny miney, mo.

Engine, engine number nine,
Going down the Chicago line,
If the train falls off the track,
Do you want your money back?
(answer using yes)
Y-E-S spells yes and you are not "it"
