Dinosaur Dig

Dinosaur Dig allows preschoolers a chance to play archaeologists and dig up bones or find the hidden treasures.

dinosaur dig

Preschool children enjoy playing in sand, they love digging holes and they dream of finding buried treasures.

This dinosaur game combines the fun of digging in the sand and the dream of finding treasures into one exciting activity.

The game can be played indoors if you cover the floor with a tarp and place the sand in plastic tubs, but it is best to play outdoors where the sand won't make too much of a mess.

Object of game

To find special prize while digging for dinosaur bones

Number of players

2 or more

Equipment

A backyard sandbox or one roasting pan filled with sand for every three children
Dog bones (aka dinosaur bones, about 10 per child)
One wrapped treat for each sandbox (like a pack of stickers, pack of gum, or a bottle of bubbles)

Set up

Bury the bones and the prize in the sandbox. Bury the prize down near the bottom of the sandbox.
If you are using roasting pans, bury one treat and 10 bones per child, in each pan.

How to play

Give each child a spoon and have them excavate the dig area searching for the bones and the special prize.

Players should keep track of how many bones they find. The player with the most bones wins a little prize. The person who finds the special buried prize get to keep it.

Winning the game

The player who finds the special prize gets to keep it and is considered a winner.
A second place winner can be the player who finds the most dinosaur bones.

Variations of dinosaur dig

Plastic Easter eggs can be used as dinosaur eggs during the dinosaur game. A special egg filled with candy or marked with a dinosaur sticker can be a prize winner.

Hide plastic dinosaurs in the sand instead of bones.
