concentration card gameThis card game not only teaches memory skills, it promotes visual recognition.

The game can be played with regular playing cards, packaged game cards made specifically for the game or even home made cards printed out using a computer.

Don't let the simplicity of this game keep you from playing it, for a children's card game it does provide hours of fun and entertainment for the whole family.

Object

To pair up the greatest number of cards by remembering their locations.

Number of players

1 or more

Equipment

One deck of 52 playing cards, or boxed memory card set.

Set up

Shuffle the cards and place them all face down on the table or floor, one next to another in rows and columns. A grouping of thirteen cards by four deep or ten cards by five deep with two individual cards at the top or bottom of the grouping are typical layouts.

To play

The first player turns over any two cards so that all players can see what they are.
If the cards have the same value (both aces, both sixes, for examples) the player picks up both cards and takes another turn.

If the cards don't match, they must be turned back down so that they reside in the same spot as they were when they were turned over and the next player takes her turn.

Try memorizing the cards that were turned over.
Play continues until all cards have been collected.

Winning the game

The player with the greatest number of pairs is the winner.
