Childrens Card Games
for an afternoon of fun

Rules and instructions for popular Childrens card games.
deck of cards

When I was growing up there were always decks of cards in the house. Mom would use them to play solitaire and my siblings and I would use them for our own card games.

Some of the games like war we could play for hours on end, even pausing the game for a good night sleep before picking it up again the next day. Other card games such as 52 Card Pick Up* were over in no time.

Kids Card Games

Concentration
Memorize the placement of the cards so you can match them up. If you can gather more pairs than your competition can, you win this childrens card game.

Crazy 8s
One of the most popular childrens card games. It teaches children to match numbers and colors of their cards. Eights are wild and can be used to help you win the game.

Go Fish
Try to get rid of all the cards in your hand by matching up complete sets. Each set consists of four cards.

Old Maid
Match up as many pairs of cards as you can to win the game, but don't get caught with the Old Maid or you'll lose.

Slap Jack
Be the quickest player to spot the jacks and win all the cards.

War Card Game
Prepare to do battle, your opponent has half the deck of cards, but you need all of them to win the game. Each player engages in a mini battle by turning over the top card in their pile. The soldier with the highest numbered card wins both cards. If the cards turned over match, then a war is declared.

* 52 Card Pick Up

52 Card Pick Up is not really a card game, but more of a rite of passage that all the kids in my neighborhood were subjected too. It doesn't get much recognition now adays, especially since the invention of computers!

My introduction to the game was back in second grade. My brother came up to me one afternoon when we were both bored and asked if I wanted to play 52 card pick up. Having nothing better to do, I said sure. As he sauntered into the room, I was excitedly asking him how to play the game. He smirked at me and flipped the deck of cards through his fingers. They went flying through the room. He turned and started out the door goading have fun picking up the 52 cards.
