Cat and Mouse is a ring toss game perfect for preschoolers to play.

cat and mouse

Games played at festivals can be copied and played in homes and classrooms with just a few adjustments made.

Here is a ring toss game that is fun for Halloween parties and home use.

This game describes using cat or mouse related items, but you can also use pumpkins, ghosts or even skeletons.

Object of game

Toss hoops around the cat and mouse related items

Number of players

2 or More

Equipment

3 Embroidery hoops
4-5 Cat or Mouse items such as:
Cat food box
cat treat bag
suction Cup Cat toy
stuffed toy cat or mouse
bag of gold fish crackers
exercise wheel
water feeding bottle
plastic chunk of cheese

Large table
Masking tape and/or putty

Set up

Arrange the cat or mouse items on a large table, leaving enough space between the items for the embroidery hoop to set down over them.
Fasten down the items using masking tape or putty so that they won't fall over.

Mark a toss from line on the floor, using the masking tape.

How to play

Stand behind the toss line and try to ring the items on the table with the embroidery hoops.

Give each child three tries to ring an item.

Winning the game

The game doesn't have to have winners. If you want the game competitive you can assign a point value to each item.

Variations

Use only stuffed cats or stuffed mice toys for the items to toss the hoop around.

Cardboard stand ups with cat pictures and mouse pictures glued to them can be an inexpensive way to make this game. Use cardboard rings instead of embroidery hoops.

Make the game more challenging by requiring one hoop to go around a cat item and one to go around a mouse item.
